Fantoccini Family

The Fantoccini Family, outlined on an earlier Bot Shop blog, was the first creation and first overall finished work i did with found items/recycled materials. Playing on the idea of robotic organisms perpetuating themselves, and if so what sort of roles they would play, the Fantoccini family came from humble beginnings. From banding wire and rivets to fully assembled and intact sculptural works, the idea and the forms tested me beyond limits I could have anticipated. I have said it before, patience, practice, and proof. Cutting my teeth working on these intricate first works proved invaluable as I moved on to larger and more mechanically complex works. The name of the work is a tip of the hat to one of my favorite american authors, Ray Bradbury. The man inspired so many, I thought a little homage was in order. Below you will find images of the Fantoccini's. From awkward, patchwork, crude assemblages to finished works. I admit, especially as a photographer, that the images are far from adequate, but for the purpose of getting the blog started, they will do. IN the near future, highly detailed and well lit images will appear in their places.
